A Puppy Rescue

Can anyone look at a puppy and not smile? I’m reminded of so many memories
from childhood and more recent memories as an adult, too many memories to count,
so many puppies. Some of those became great companions that I dearly miss.  The
more recent ones I still have today. They become our friends through the best and
worst of times, only wanting to please us. Most move on out of our lives never to be
seen or heard about again. But what if there are not enough homes? Then what
happens? The dog pound? Euthanasia? Abuse? For some there is hope!

North Shore Animal League located in New York is a no kill animal shelter and
takes a lot of puppies from all over and places them in good homes.  Just recently on
June 30, 2009 the Wythe County Humane Society sent 59 puppies of all different
kinds on the North Shore transport van. North shore requires that all puppies are
wormed, vaccinated and each one must have a Health Certificate from a Veterinarian.
This can cost on average about $30 per puppy to send it for a chance at a new home.
There are just not enough homes around this area for all the puppies. Around 30-50
are sent to North Shore each month at a cost of $750-$1200. Puppies are easier to
place than adult dogs. North Shore also takes adult dogs but can only take a few each
month and the cost associated with an adult is much more, so it is critical to send as
many puppies as possible each month. We all know how fast a puppy grows into an
immature adult. Visit their website.

The Wythe County Humane Society needs your help to continue to send these
puppies to North Shore Animal League. Become a puppy sponsor. Make a onetime
donation or make a monthly donation to help keep the puppy rescue alive. They can’t
continue to save puppies without your help. Have your dogs and cats spayed and
neutered to stop unwanted puppies and kittens from coming into an area without
enough homes.
