Linda's Opinion: I have been a foster for the Wythe Co. Humane Society for over a year now. I love the furry creatures God created and called dog. I would care for a hundred if my hands were not bound by laws and regulations as well as finances. But when I try to care for 50 I get reprimanded by the local Animal Control Officers who originally told me I could care for that many. As a matter of fact, the ACO issued me 3 letters so that I could purchase 3 kennel licenses, two for myself and one for my son who happens to have the same address at this time. These letters were written to me without an inspection of the kennels I built for that purpose. I was asked if I had "fit" living conditions for a dog. That was all they wanted to know. I did not get a visit from the ACO until an inspection about a month ago which was long after I started fostering. There findings was that I had too many dogs. I had one more dog than the number allowed that the ACO originally quoted me and that number include my sons dogs. For this I was issued a summons. The WC Humane Society has talked to Mr. Cellell Dalton and other officials to try to rectify this situation. Now I am told I can only foster 40 dogs counting my own 6 and my son's 5. The officers of the WCHS have been trying to bring me into compliance with the laws and regulations by adopting out and transporting as many of my foster dogs as possible. The problem with that is the ACO keeps changing the numbers. Without the support of the public and the public being made aware of the situation, many more dogs are going to die at the hands of our local administrators and their designees who carry out the euthanizations. I am begging you to please take a moment to write the Wythe Co. Administrator or his office, the Board of Superivisors, or any local official that may be able to help so that this madness can stop. The WCHS cannot do it alone. We need your help. God made us caretakers of HIS creatures, and I am sure HE did not intend for man to kill HIS creations because it is easier or less for someone to deal with. Thank you. Linda 8/6/09 Thanks Linda. I was just reading Linda's post about the lovely animal control officers and am appauled. In my opion as long as the animals are well taken care of, are feed properly, and have clean living conditions. LEAVE her alone. Its not as if she is running a back yard business and is making a huge profit off of keeping these dogs. In fact she is problay going in the hole. Why does the ACO have himself in a wad over her dogs when its not costing him anything. Go bother someone else that is neglecting their dogs and not caring for them. Sarah 10/8/09
Leah's Opinion: One word for the Wythe County Animal control...INHUMANE! So thankful for rescues! If it wasn't for any of them, I would hate to see how many poor souls would never get a chance at a quality life! Too bad some people cannot take a few more seconds of their "precious" time to take a simple picture of an animal who has NO time! I find this appalling and disgusting. To have the nerve to push away someone who volunteers their time to take pictures to keep this website updated, sends the message that Animal Control just does not care. I'm sorry, is it considered a "shelter" or a control? That needs to be distinguished- there is a difference, obviously. Adopter of a Chow Chow who was not pictured or any information, just a number! BEST companion EVER- 11/18/09 Thanks for your opinion Leah
What’s in my dog or cat’s food? Pet Food Ingredients The best way to really know what your dog is eating is to read the label. The label is not as hard to read as one might think. Things to look for on the label are the first three ingredients. These first three make up 75% of the contents of the food you are feeding. The first three items listed are usually easy to read, easy to understand, and common words we all might know. The FDA reports that 25% of the product would be listed as the third or fourth ingredient. Read the whole article here pdf file. Thanks Kim.
Dee's Opinion: I think what I've heard and seen about Wythe county animal control is criminal! I see few shelters who will let volunteers do whatever possible to find a lost dogs home, or find rescues to pull dogs or find loving homes for a dog or cat that will otherwise be put to sleep. And the shelter doesnt give 2 hoots! I for one will lead a battle to change this if I could get some good people behind me. These are not the kind of people this state and this country are made up of, so why are we letting this happen? Anyone want to change this, let me know and we'll work together. 2/18/10 Thanks for your opinion. It's been 3 weeks today since they have sent me pictures to put on this website. I agree they don't care. John
Linda's Opinion: I HAVE BEEN RUNNING STP KENNEL RESCUE FOR OVER 2 YEARS WITH THE HELP OF THE WC HUMANE SOCIETY. TOGETHER WE HAVE SUCCESSFULLY SAVED AND GIVEN OUR FURRY FRIENDS A 2ND CHANCE. HOWEVER, EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2010 THE WYTHE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS HAS ISSUED A NEW ADMENDMENT TO THE WC ANIMAL AND FOWL ORDINACE 2007-5. THE NEW ADMENDMENT RESTRICTS DOG OWNERS, AND RESCUES SUCH AS MINE, TO NO MORE THAN 20 DOGs AND ONLY ONE KENNEL LICENSE. NOT CATS, HORSES, COWS, ETC., BUT ONLY DOGS. SEEMS LIKE OUR WCBOS WOULD RATHER SENTENCE THE DOGS TO DEATH THAN TO TRY AND SAVE THEM. WHY DIDN'T THEY PASS A STRICT SPAY/NEUTER LAW INSTEAD TO REDUCE THE EXPLODING POPULATION OF UNWANTED DOGS IN THE COUNTY. NO MATTER HOW I TRY TO HELP SAVE THE DOGS, THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING TRYING TO PREVENT IT. PLEASE TAKE A STAND ON THIS WITH YOUR LOCAL SUPERVISORS AND ADMINISTRATORS. WHAT WILL THEY TRY TO DICTATE NEXT? GOD MADE US CARETAKERS OF HIS CREATURES. I AM GLAD I AM ON "HIS" SIDE. IF GOD BE FOR ! US, WHO CAN BE AGAINST US (and win)???? 5/10/10
Shirley's Opinion: I think they should try and save the dogs and not always wanting to put them down. how would they feel if the shoe was on the other foot. I also think if they think there are to many dogs out there then let them find a way to help people to have their pets spade and nudered.I know it would help to pass that law but even so still some people have their pets that they love very much, and just don't have the money to have their pets fixed. try fune raising, bake sales or what ever it takes. why can't the groverment have grants for things like this.they spend money on a lot less inportain things. lets do all we can to help save the dogs. God did put these little things on earth just the way He did us. it's just not right to just kill them. the dogs have so much love to give and so much of the time that is all the love some people get. when you are all alone theres nothing like a good friend as a dog can be. I love my dogs and i know they love me back. so please people! lets do all we can to save our friends. 7/19/10 Thanks Shirley. They could use some of the money from the dog tags to use towards a spay/nueter program. John 7/19/10
